Table of Contents, University of Detroit Mercy, 1997

Table of Contents was an extension and a product of the UDM Masterplan I worked on from 1994 to 2000. It was conceived with this framing question: how could the program of inquiry envisioned by the masterplan extend to the design of furniture for the digital studio? The center of this tripartite table is a strip of resin tiles. Like flies caught in amber, the guts of a vintage Radio Shack computer, used by a colleague to write his dissertation, are embedded within the transparent material. Shadows from the specimens grace the floor below. Gaps between the tiles were designed to accommodate the power cords of future laptops.
